Job Summary:

Area Manufacturing Manager

Bring your manufacturing and business savvy to Harsco Rail. With a proud heritage gained over our 100-year history, we are a global leader in rail maintenance of way equipment. Here you will have the opportunity to develop and lead high-performance teams to deliver impactful results.

Reporting to the North America Operations Manager, you will manage multiple shifts with a total of 40 direct and indirect reports in production, manufacturing engineering, and buying/planning in a custom-engineered, build-to-order environment. You will provide leadership to your staff, including mentoring, coaching, and training, creating an environment of safety, teamwork and accountability. You’ll develop standard work, work standards, cross training matrix, play books, and other workforce planning tools to meet variable customer demand. You’ll ensure on-time, within-budget, quality products to delight our customers. Besides managing day-to-day operations, you will be a key participant in our Continuous Improvement journey, implementing initiatives for improvements in product quality, reduction of cycle times and improvement of inventory turns. You will develop, monitor and implement department budgets and production forecasts, and you will work jointly with other functional managers to establish shift standards, headcount and working schedules for all departments connected with production.

Our qualified candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree (required) coupled with at least 3years of experience in a production management role (supervising supervisors or team leads). Experience implementing continuous improvement (Lean, Six Sigma, Kanban, 5S, Toyota Management, or other) is required.

Preferredqualifications include a Bachelor’s in Business, Supply Chain Management or Engineering; Green Belt or Black Belt certification in Six Sigma; and experience in low-volume/high-mix heavy industrial or Engineered-to-Order manufacturing. You will have highly-developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence others at all levels in a matrix organization. You will have demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategies based on data, and proficiency extracting and manipulating data from an ERP system (Baan (Infor) LN preferred).
